Back in Rome again.

This time we are staying in an apartment outside the main walls of the city and just off the Appian Way.  From the window of our room we can see the Basillica San Giovanni Laterano where last night, in the grassy area in front, a free concert was staged starring the Black Eyed Peas.  We went and got swept up into one of the largest crowds i think i have ever had the good fortune to disappear into.  As the concert wrapped up we headed back to home base and realized we could hear, if not see, the music as loud as life while sitting on the edge of our bed.  It was a long night.

If you are in Rome, don't bother to make the trip down to Pompeii and Vesuvious, check out the working class equivalent just 45 minutes outside the capitol.

We also checked out Ostia Antica, one of the lesser visited ancient Roman excavations. If you are in Rome, don't bother to make the trip down to Pompeii and Vesuvious, check out the working class equivalent just 45 minutes outside the capitol.  It's an expansive site so plan for all day, but it bosts some jaw -dropping rins, enearthed in the last century that are intact from the mosaic floors to an ancient roman cafe with bar, food display shelves and paintings of menu items on the stucco walls.

Not to be missed.

Super fantastik! Thanks for the postcard, ohhh our roomate's name is Dan, he makes his lunches a week in advance...??? Sip the wine the coke and wake the rooster, joking the morning hooster. Living in a lap of luxury its not easy being at the top of cheese mountain in Sicili.

So did the Romans like the lady lumps? Thanks for the postcard! I never made it up to the museo del bargello while in Florence. As to the Cinque Terre, I stayed in Riomaggiore in a little room right next to the water. It was great -- except for the University of Iowa students who were jumping off a nearby ledge and making a huge racket. Have a safe trip back if you're not already here... I mean there... I mean in Portland.
