So farewell to our little saltbox cottage on the bay in Wellfleet. We'd arrived feeling it was a bit frayed around the edges and more towards the rustic end of the comfort spectrum than we had been looking for, but in the end felt it suited our needs very well. It certainly was frayed around the edges, but it had charm, and it was in a beautiful location and a beautiful area. From the outset, when Midge and I were inspecting a kitchen cupboard that smelt as though a hamster may have been in residence in the recent past, Will was rushing around the house in great excitement telling us how wonderful it was. It's going to take a few years before I trust his judgement though. Over dinner today, I asked Will what he'd enjoyed most about the day. In all seriousness, he told me "the towel machine that goes whir". He was talking about a paper hand towel dispenser in the hotel swimming pool changing room, which has a motion sensor and automatically dispenses hand towels. America eh ! Will is certainly a convert. But I think I'll stick with my own views of the cottage in Wellfleet.

So today it's down to South Yarmouth, in the resorty part of Cape Cod, for a week in a hotel on the beach, for a bit of comfort after three weeks in a motor home and a week in an 'authentic' Cape Cod cottage, plus various hotels and motels, of various standards, in between. And then it's home !

We packed, cleaned, and vacated the cottage in the morning and went for a swim at one of the local kettle ponds. Then lunch on the harbour side in Wellfleet, and a short walk around the Attwood-Higgins house, north of Wellfleet, which is a proper 'authentic' Cape Code House from the 18C. Then down Route 6 to Nausett and the Three Sisters lighthouses and onto South Yarmouth.
