Weekly Summary
This week started off out of the office with the tour of Arlington County Court House and Jail. This experience was good because it allowed me to get out of the office and actually see some of the criminal justice system’s policies and procedures put into action. It was good to see the pre-trial process first hand as well as other aspects of the criminal justice system such as the treatment of inmates and security systems used in jails.
During the next few days I was able to learn more about other divisions outside of the Financial Crimes Unit. I really enjoyed learning about the different opportunities that exist within the MPD because I learned that there is a place for every type of skill in the MPD. It doesn’t matter if you are physically strong or mentally strong, there is a place for every type of person with every skill in the police department. Throughout this time learning about other divisions I was also able to learn how the police department needs to work with other agencies in DC in order to utilize all of the resources that are available to them. Through these experiences I also learned how important team work is in order to reduce crime.

Although the end of the week was a little slow I was able to continue working with the monthly reports and gain more communication skills. By answering the phones on Friday I was not only able to work on my communication skills, but I also learned a lot more about the services that the Financial Crimes and Fraud Division offer to DC civilians. During the end of the week I was also able to work with some of the victims of fraud by calling them and informing them of the status of their cases. Weekend:

This weekend my mom came down to visit me. On Saturday we did a ton of walking. In the morning we went to the National Zoo which was really cool and a bonus is that it was completely free! At night we walked to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial then stopped by the White House on the way home. On Sunday before my mom left we went to Arlington National Cemetary. When we were there we were able to see the changing of the guards ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
