Niagara Falls
From Shar & Wingy´s American Adventure in Buffalo, United States on Feb 20 '06
Caught the bus back to NYC today to get a connecting flight to Buffalo (which is the closest town to the Niagara Falls on the American side of the falls). Absolutely freezing when we arrived (about -5) and snowing. The snow had stopped by the time we reached our hostel so we walked to the falls. They were heaps smaller that I had imagined. I was expected them to be really high .. but they are only about 50-60 metres high. Wingy said they were 1/10th of the size he expected them to be! The American side of things was pretty dire... all of the shops were closed, there was literally now one around, and a police officer warned us about walking around in this neighborhood! We decided to cross the bridge and walk to Canada and we were truly in a different country after we crossed the bridge. On the Canadian side there were Hard Rock Cafes, Planet Hollywoods, Starbucks, Theme Parks and Casinos on every block. The view of the falls was much more impressive too and we waited until nightfall when the lights came on to see the falls at night.
