Livorno To Civitavecchia (Rome)

Today we arrived in Civitavecchia which is in Rome.  We docked and after a lovely breakfast we boarded

our coach for the longest of all our shore excurisions being 9.5 hours.

Today we visited the Eternal City arriving in the heart of the Vatican City.  There we walked for miles

and visited St Peters Basilica and St Peters Square which is the Vatican, Piazza Navona which is

a square with fountains where we dined on the most expensive coffee and cake ($46.00 Aussie) then we

ventured to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps - which apparently aren't

Spanish according to the Italians) and Castel Sant'angelo (Museum/Shrine).

Exhausted we found a lovely cafe and had penni and a drink to meet back at the Vatican City for a

tour of the most beautiful St Peters Basillica where we were told that the pictures inside were all

made from mosaic tiles - when Geoff and I looked at them you would not know that was what they

were made from it looked as if they were hand painted until we got up close to see the each of the

millions and millions of tiles would have only been about 2mm square - the tones of the pictures

were wonderful and if we weren't told what they were made of you would sware that they were painted.

We came back to the cruise ship where we showered and ventured to the top deck to wave good bye to

Civitavecchia and prepared ourselves for a day at sea tomorrow (Sunday) to arrive on Monday morning

to the wonderful Mykonos (Greece).

In Mydonos we are joining a tour called Ancient Delos which was once a religious centre.  This tour

is only for 4 hours so there will be a little sunbaking in the morning for us.
