There is not much to say about our 12 hour, one night stopover in this sleazy city.  Hat Yai is really a boarder city, despite not being directly on the boarder, since it is the major hub for travel between Thailand and Malaysia.  Many rich Malays use this as a playground in which they can do many of the things more strictly outlawed in their own country.

A Sleezy Border City

We ate a terrible meal, slept in our dingy room, and made our way through the sketchy streets to the train station as early as possible.  The only good thing we found in this place were some delicious roasted chestnuts from a street hawker, which sustained us on our train ride to the actual border.
