Quickie!
From So you're a Graduate Now in Toral de los Guzmanes, Spain on Jul 12 '06
Well, I know this is the second time that I´ve posted without pictures, but I promise they will be more soon. It´s now half way through the 3rd camp, ages 13-15, and it´s going a lot better than the previous camps. The kids can take a lot better care of themselves, they understand more of what I say (both better English on their part and Spanish on mine at this point), and I´ve been able to relate a lot better. I´m also way more rested and less stressed out.
Things came to a head at the end of the last camp (a virtually solid 2+ week marathon) when I´d been averaging 5 hours of sleep a night, working hard, and speaking in a foreign language. The kids finally left, and I got to leave camp, but I ended up wandering around Leon for 2.5 hours looking for a power adapter that I ended up not buying. Then all the camp counselors went out to dinner in this amazingly cool bodega (underground wine cellar with style). I was exhausted, but it was ok...untill someone suggested going to McDonalds...and then on a 5 km walk. I finally went to bed at 1:30 AM. I was planning on going to church but instead I just got up, ate breakfast, and went back to bed. I think I slept 11 hours.
Gotta Go!
I´m going to have to cut things short because I´m running out of time, but next time I´ll have some more pictures and talk a little bit about Spanish fashion....such as a dreadlock mullets (I´m not kidding), gangster sheik clothing, and the same sunglasses that movie stars and cocaine addicts use. The basics: I´m fine, learning a lot of Spanish, I miss all my family, friends, and Seattle like crazy, and am very tired of explaining how the US is not exactly like the movies, and much larger than Spain...and France....and pretty much all of Europe put together. It´s been very fun, a little stressful at time, and I´m glad I´m here. Love you all,
-Justin
