Ian, Lori and Ollie walked around the hotel in the morning to determine if it was best to spend a few hours in Key Largo or to head straight to Key West. As there was not much of a beach, so they decided to pack up and go. The first mishap of the trip was discovered when Ian and Lori were packing up their things to leave and Ian could not find his wallet. After an hour of unpacking, repacking, searching the cars and the rooms, it was decided that the wallet was gone and it is still a mystery to this day as to what happened. The last time Ian and Lori could remember having it was checking into reception the previous evening. After checking all the cards, both Lori and Ian were relieved to find there had been no illegal charges. After all that excitement, the trio were hungry and drove a few miles down the road to The Waffle House for breakfast. For those American reading this, Lori thought that it would be similar to a Denny’s/Perkins, but was disappointed as the menu was not extensive and the food was not as good. The Waffle House did fill everyone up and recharged Ollie and Lori with coffee.

The road was calling and the drive to Key West began. There were countless bridges, endless views and plenty of sunshine. Lori was surprised to see that the speed limit for most of the drive ranged between 35 and 55 miles per hour. Upon arriving in Key West, Oli dropped his car off and joined Lori and Ian in the mustang. They checked into the Key West Fairfield Inn (a Marriott owned chain) and freshened up. They took a taxi to meet Steve and Emma at the Island Dog for a drink. There was a special on Mojitos, so the three had some while they waited. As the sun was setting, they joined in the island sunset celebration. Everyone stands along the pier to see the sunset and there are several street performers and stands selling bric-a-brac. They saw a man performing a hat trick while on top of at least a 20 foot unicycle which was pretty impressive. After the sunset, they returned to the Island Dog, where Emma and Steve had just arrived on their bikes. As Key West is small, people will rent bikes, scooters, or golf carts to get around.

We had dinner at the A&B Lobster house, Key west, that night. Emma, Steve and Ollie all enjoyed the lobster, Ian had yellow finned snapper and Lori had coconut-fried grouper. They all shared a key lime pie for dessert, which was almost as good as the one Lorraine had made for the rehearsal dinner and was very sharp. After dinner, the group was in search of some further adventures and ended up at Q Aqua on Duval Street, which was offering a drag show. Within a few minutes of entering, the show started and three performers “entertained” the place for the next hour. The group had a few uncomfortable moments, but managed to laugh their way through it.
