Having missed out on Melaka the first time around in Malaysia I decided to make it my first stop this time around. So after my 2 hour flight from Saigon to Singapore, my tube ride to the bus depot and my 4 hour bus journey across the border into Malaysia, I eventaully arrived at the historical town of Melaka.

After getting a room at a hostel (which was possibly the smallest room I have ever seen) I took a stroll about the town to see what all the fuss was about. It was weird being back in a Muslim country having been in Vietnam and elsewhere for so long but it didn't take me long to get used to it again.

So after my 2 hour flight from Saigon to Singapore, my tube ride to the bus depot and my 4 hour bus journey across the border into Malaysia, I eventaully arrived at the historical town of Melaka.

The small narrow streets in the centre of the town are full of character and charm. The oldest building in Malaysia is in Melaka so of course I took some photos there. All the tuk tuk drives are covered in flowers and tacky lights that shine up at night time! I took a 30 minute ride around on one during the day to visit some temples and other historic buildings - it was a way to kill some time.

As I was there on the weekend I was in time for the night market which seemed to be where most people were hanging about. Locals were selling everything from wooden shoes to local foods to hand made crafts. I stopped at one stall where a guy was pieces of fruit on a stick covered in toffee - it was divine and I must admit I did eat a few too many pieces!!

As I was in Melaka alone I searched for a bar to have a drink and see could I meet some people but I couldn't find anything going on! So it was just me, talking to the locals at the market, drinking shakes in cafes & reading my book! It was nice though to chill out for 2 days after all the hectic going of the past month. As I was walking home on my last night I stopped to take some pictures of the buildings all lit up and was thinking how nice and peaceful it was around when all of a sudden I heard someone go pssst pssst and when I looked around lets just say there was a dirty old man interfering with himself saying "take photo" and doing the most disgusting laugh I ever heard. After that I hot legged it home and was glad to leave the next morning!!

pictures coming soon - connection hasnt been the best in a while to upload
