After leaving Los Cardones, I lucked out and started traveling with a professional photographer from Vancouver, Canada.  It worked great because she had rented a car and wanted to see more of Nicaragua, and I had a board bag (not great for chicken busses) and wanted to surf and see more places as well.

Josie and I left Los Cardones and headed to Granada. I drove. Driving in Nica is a crazy experience.  There are "Samosa Stone" highways throughout most of the country and whenever you encounter slower moving traffic (cows, pull-carts, oxen pulled cart, motorcycles, bicycles, etc.) all you do is honk and pass.  Driving basically consists of one hand shifting and the other honking and steering.  NOTE- ALWAYS pick up hitch-hiking police officers!  First its just good karma, and second it ensures that you dont get stopped by the gringo hastling "checkpoints" that are notorious for trying to get money out of gringos for the smallest infractions.

Dont buy drugs from kids on bicycles.

Granada is a beautiful town with fantastic history.  Check out the center square and definitely eat breakfast at Cathy's Waffles, two blocks off the main square.

We awoke early the next morning to catch the good light and Josie and I walked through the crowded marketplace just after sunrise with a cup of coffee.  I got some of the best photos of the trip this morning.  Most Nicas will let you photograph them and will even pose so long as you can let them see the photo afterwards!
