Tapices - Tapestries - Wall Hangings

Upon popular request, I went to the market in Otavalo to take a bunch more pictures of the beautiful tapices (tapestries).  In a about one week, we will make our last shopping trip to Otavalo to buy more artisan products to bring back with us.

So, if something in these pictures catches your eye, soon will be the last chance to get them at a great price ($30 - $35) for a 24x36 inch tapiz.  They are the genuine article, i.e. they are hand woven, many with sheep wool dyed with plant products.  Some of the brighter colors are nylon, and some of the tapices are made from ony naturally colored wool.

If you see something you like, send me an e-mail, describe it, and include the picture number and we will try our best to get it.  Selection changes from week to week but many of the designs are fairly typical and standard.

REMEMBER, all proceeds will go to projects that help the indiginous communities around Cotacachi.  Just yesterday, we had a meeting with community leaders discussing environmental projects and we were amazed what ideas we could brainstrom, from environmental education, to recycling and making new products with the recycled content.

Happy Holidays to all faithful readers of our blog.  We will prepare a few more entries depending on how much time we have.  One of these entries will deal with Christmas here in Cotacachi, which is truly eye-opening for someone from the US.

(Please make sure to click on the link to more photos.  There are more photos than fit on this page. The picture titled ´Tapiz 13´ is of smaller tapices which could make wonderful framed wall hanings or just as little accents.  I think they are about 8x8 inches but I need to measure again.  They should run about $8-10.  I have not priced them because I just saw them for the first time a few days ago.)
