A Day at the Beach? Not!

Ralph said he wanted to go to the beach. But, since we planned to see Donielle Monday or Tuesday, I turned the car south instead of west and headed for Hwy 101 which would take us south along the ocean.
Directly after crossing the Columbia River, we saw signs for Fort Clatsop, 1805-1806 winter quarters of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Time to get out of the car for a little exercise. This turned out to be a wonderful surprise. A replica of the fort complete with costumed guides. We learned to make fire without matches and how to use a foot vise. We poked our noses inside the fort where Sam decided he would not want to live there, but he might camp out overnight. We walked down to the canoe landing which was lucky because we could add that activity when Sam filled out his application to become a Junior Park Ranger. Then it was back on the road.

Ralph was getting pretty unhappy about not seeing the ocean, so we pulled into Ecola State Park. After a long, winding road we came out on the beautiful vista you see in the pictures. That was all the ocean/beach we got that day - we'll have to do better tomorrow.
Love to all -30-
