Navidad in Cusco
From Nine months in South America in Cusco, Peru on Dec 22 '08
Deciding to hit Cuzco for Christmas and new year was a really good idea - the former capital of the Inca Empire is now Gringo capital of South America. The hostel we´re staying in is packed full of Americans, Aussies and Kiwis all looking to enjoy Christmas, and a yummy Christmas dinner was served to 150 people on Christmas afternoon - albeit without Yorkshire puddings!
Christmas Eve was a lot of fun drinking in the hostal´s massive bar and watching the fireworks across the valley and on Christmas morning Phil and I went for a walk around the town and saw some fun traditional dancing parades outside the church.
It´s becoming increasingly clear due to my inability to walk at the moment that a four day hike through the Andes to Machu Picchu, lost city of the Incas, is somewhat out of the question. Bummer. I´ll get the train with the fat Americans and meet Phil there on New Year´s Eve. At least I´ll be able to show up clean and shiny after a good night´s sleep and mock him for being dishevelled and smelly after a four day hike!
