Well after our tour of the Tablelands, we thought it best to head back out to the coast to continue our drive south. We headed out to Mission Beach, just south of Cairns but didn’t get there until quite late. Fortunately this enabled us to park up outside some beach showers and park up for the night on the sly. After a quick dinner and a game of cards we hit the sack for an early start.

We were up early to avoid an authorities who might be checking our camp spot out. It gave us a chance to drive another 20 minutes down to South Mission Beach, where we’d need to recharge the battery on our campervan. We stayed at Beachcomber Coconut Caravan Village and it had everything we’d want. It gave us a chance to do our laundry, refill with water and empty the waste. The rest of the day was mainly spent milling in the pool. Luckily it had a slide - the start and finish of our assault course.

After that, myself and Paul started to prepare for the BBQ while Adam and Natalie headed to the beach. A brave move considering it is stinger season here in Oz, especially on the North part of the East coast. Signs all around warn you of the fatal dangers that await should you encounter a stinger and the stinger net in place in the sea is by no means a guarantee of a safe swim. Nonetheless, they survived.

Now in Australia, in every park and on every beach, there a free gas BBQ’s for the public. For dinner we decided to take advantage of being so close to one that we went out, bought some steak and shrimp and enjoyed one of the best meals since we’ve picked up our camper. The evening was made even better by the glow of the moon, the sound of the sea and the music blasting from our speakers. We finished the evening mooching down at the beach with a few stubbies and a musical throw back to the 90’s.

The next day we left early for our next destination, the Whitsunday’s.
