The Franz Josef glacier is 12km long and is one of the fastest moving glaciers in the world with a growth of as much as 1.5 metres a day. Hannah and I decided to do a helicopter hike which flew us up to the top of the glacier for an afternoon hike. After being kitted out with jackets, boots, crampons and ice pics we hiked through caves, crevasses, pinnacles and along pathways which had been carved out of the ice. Walking on top of the glacier was phenomenal and my foot falling through the iceā¦freezing!
