One day in Las Cruces

We flew into El Paso Friday morning, and this is one of the few airports in America that I haven't been to! I can't say much about El Paso, since we drove straight to Las Cruces, but the drive right along the Mexican border is always interesting.
From Las Cruces, we headed north to find some lakes for my Wikipedia lake project work. On the way, we got off the highway to explore and find somewhere to eat lunch. The countryside along the Rio Grande was gorgeous, but rather remote. We eventually stumbled on the very cute town of Hatch, the chili capital of New Mexico. The title was borne out by many shops with huge bundles of chilis hanging in front. We had a great lunch...but boy was it hot! They aren't kidding here when they boast about having hot food.
Boy, were the chiles hot!
