Sunday 11th May
From Time out for Trigglodytes in Luxembourg on May 10 '08
We had a good look at the castle and along the river. Glorious day and a beautiful city. Found an internet café for some essential connecting with home on Mother’s day. Kids found themselves a bookshop and happily ‘read’ while we fiddled on the internet. They had an amazing bike here. It was like one of the things you put the kids in and tow along behind your bike only it had an elongated front and room for two adults to sit in it and pedal. We thought it was a car at first but then saw them pedalling.
We were told that Trier was worth a visit and it really was beautiful. Decidedly German looking buildings with their quaint gables but also a Roman Gateway – Porta Nigra that has been partly turned into a church. A palace with lovely gardens full of happy people enjoying the sunshine. We joined them for afternoon tea and just avoided getting soaked by a very vigorous waterfight that started up around us. It was like having a floorshow.
Made it into Luxembourg and we headed north In search of the quintessential castle. We needed a camp ground though and stopped at one with fantastic amenities not too far from our goal. More nice fellow campers. The Luxemberg countryside is idyllic. Everything about it seems to have stepped straight from a tourist brochure. I couldn’t bear to read the guide book as we drove through because it was just so lovely.
