"I wish I were somewhere on that southern greyhound bus..." - song by Mollie Lewis

Today, after 2 1/2 months of healing my stress fracture and retraining, I am leaving Alexandria and heading to the Appalachian Trail.

Not the adventure of ones dreams.

I bid farewell to my aunt and uncle. Any thank-you seems deficient. We arrived at the metro on time and I transferred and got to the greyhound. Somewhere above Gordonsville the bus began over-heating. When the bus shut off a third time, we'd already missed our west-bound connection. About 20 minutes north of Charlottesville we stopped for good and waited for a bus from Richmond which was only an hour away but took nearly 4 to arrive. When we got to Charlottesville it was 6 pm. and the next bus didn’t come till 10. I wandered through old town, which is full of restaurants, art, antiques and boutiques. Then I went to a film - Hot Fuzz. It was good. Our bus didn’t pull away until nearly 11. I arrived at my hotel and instantly passed out at 2 am. Not the adventure of ones dreams.

I'm happy to hear you're back on the trail! Don't less the bus get you down - they've never gotten it right to my knowledge. I look forward to your tales from Appalachia. -Anna
