Le Solielle!!
From Annecy in Annecy, France on Feb 15 '07
Finally since arriving in Annecy, the sun came out yesterday. and how GORGEOUS it is now in the city. Yesterday lunch, went for raclette at a restaurant, little pricey at 16eur but the restaurant claimed to speak english so I was like, score. The raclette was different than when I tried in Paris. Instead of providing a skillet to melt the cheese with, they bring out the melted raclette on a plate, and refill it when you're done. Ended up having 5 plates from this all you can eat raclette - which I don't think i'll try again 'cause I was feeling a bit queesy afterwards. Spent the whole afternoon at Lac d'Annecy and it was fantastic, just sat and watched so many people walking around. An observation I made about the French - they are so formed and purposeful in everything they do. Absolutely no one is slouching or wandering when they walk, and they have an heir of pride or confidence about them. Anyways, for some reason, I got really missing my nephew and family in Paris when I was at the lake. Can't wait to go back to see them in two weeks. Later in the night, me and Jill (other student who lives in the same house as me) went to a pub for some beir and sangria. Might be just me, but even the pubs seem more sophisticated here.
This morning slept in 'til 930 'cause my class is in the afternoon. Went to my new favorite hangout - a cafe patassierre in the ville. Had "chocolat l'ancien" which was delicious hot chocolate they must make from dark chocolate, because it's not overwhelmingly sweet and you add sugar yourself. I hate the blank looks I get when I massacre french sentences I try to say.
