Volcano trek in Pucon

We enjoyed 4 days in Pucon, a small town in the Chilean Lake District lying beneath the Villarrica Volcano. It was an arduous 4.5 hour trek  to the top wher we watched bright red lava spurting from the crater. the descent was much faster as we had to slide down snow chutes on our bums using an ice axe as a brake, great fun!!!! The evening was spent recovering and chilling in oiutdoor  thermal pools enjoying a bottle of wine beneath a spectacular starry sky.
