We really enjoyed the Ihlara valley, especially because we could go off discovering by ourselves. The valley was step and narrow gorge cut into volcanic rock with sheer cliffs either side. During the Byzantine era communities of Christians hide the valley from the Romans. There are hundred of churches cut on into the rock, making it great for exploring; we could have spent all day there.
