I Can See Snow
From Whirlwind Trip of Europe in Segovia, Spain on Mar 16 '07
Once we got in from Porto we headed up to Segovia from Madrid. It is one of the World Heritage Sights of Spain. We hopped on the train and headed out into the mountains. The villages were so cute. They were up on the hillsides and just seemed to pop up everywhere. And slowly the temperature got colder. We knew we were heading to the mountains, but we weren´t sure how the temperature would change. We managed to drop almost 9 degrees in the 2 hours. Finally we can see Segovia. It seemed like a cute little town when we got there. We were planning on getting cute, character filled hostel in the heart of the old city, but we opted for the hostel right across the road. It was more like a hotel. We put our bags down and that was the best feeling. Those things just keep on gaining weight. I guess we shouldn´t buy anymore books... but it is so hard not to.
Now we were ready to explore. We headed down and got to the Basillica and then kept walking so we could get to Alcazar. It is this castle that makes you think about Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. It really could be from a fairly tail. The walking trails surrounding the castle would have been great, if we had time. We got the audio guide and started the tour. AS usual the inside is ellaborately decorated and only the pictures... which have been hard to upload.. can explain. Then we headed to the Basilica and went inside. I think it has one of the most impressive Organs.. or two for that matter that I´ve seen. They reached all the way up to the top of part of the basilica and they were just stunning to say the least. The sections of the basilica each had these gates that had intricate steal work that no one can do any more.
WE headed back and went to the supermarket to get some things for the next day and then we went out for dinner. But first we went to this cute little coffee shop while waiting for the restaurant to reopen at 8 pm. WE were sitting down having out dessert and coffee and the lady knew we spoke English and some Spanish cause this other older couple came in and couldn´t speak much. So, she turned to me and I had to translate for them. It was quite funny, but it made me feel good to be able to help them out. Well I think we have had a filled day with many churches and lots of little shops. And we will be heading to Madrid tomorrow morning.
