After another long drive we finally arrive in Seville. There isn’t a great deal of time to do anything tonight as I have booked the trip to the Flamenco! There were three such trips to choose from but we were told that the only two worth seeing would be in Seville or Granada. Naturally I went for both.

After an early meal we head off to the theatre. We are going to see classical flamenco today, not the looser, wilder gipsy style. Inside we are packed onto wooden benches and provided with our free welcome glass of Sangria. I’m ashamed to say it’s the first time I’ve had any on this trip and it is heaven! I like my alcohol sweet and this really does hit the spot. All you need is a bottle of rough red wine (I’m not sure it has to be but it’s certainly a good use for any dodgy gifts you’ve been given), orange juice, lemonade (or maybe sparkling water if that’s your thing), ice and plenty of slices of orange or lemon.

For me the show is a little disappointing. Classical flamenco is well polished, practiced and set in stone. It just doesn’t bring to mind the rough and ready freeform style we associate with it. My vision of flamenco is that of the San Miguel beer adverts (apologies to non UK residents), where the dancer simply won’t stop, not even to collect her prize. But please don’t think that the quality was lacking. They were fabulous. They had to be – they were all being closely scrutinised by the older dancer who clearly ran the troupe.

We rounded off a very pleasant evening with a little late night sightseeing. Roll on tomorrow and finally a second night in the same place. The first since Barcelona!
