Ciao Italia, Bonjour Corsica

Saturday morning, we sunned ourselves at the pool, bid farewell to our Dutch friends, and headed for town. We had some delicious pizza (by the way, pizza here is very different from in the States), enjoyed our last Volterran gelatos, and left for Livorno to catch the ferry to Corsica. We lucked out and snagged some “jackpot” ferry tickets, so we’re paying around €60 one way instead of €260.
We took the coastal road to the port and got some nice views of the ultra blue water, some offshore islands, and about 300 parked cars and motorbikes belonging to people at the beaches below. We arrived at the port about an hour before we had to, and joined many other waiting cars.

Unfortunately, our ferry was not only late, but it took forever (about 45 minutes) to unload, so we were waiting for about 3 hours before embarking. We did have a nice chat with some Germans who had been driving from Cologne since midnight the night before (about 15 hours).
We shared a ferry meal (grilled eggplant, zucchini, and peppers, fresh mozzarella, and spaghetti with tomato sauce) that was tasty, but ferry-priced. The ride was smooth with spectacular views including several mystery islands (one was probably Elba) and a gorgeous sunset. We even found a nice little enclave with an outlet so we could recharge our camera batteries and use the laptop. We figure this makes us and the ferry even – their overpriced food, our charged electronics. Ferry: 1, Laena & Jennica: 1.
