Ninth game, Orioles vs. Blue Jays
First off I would like to say that Baltimore is a craphole. If I ever had to move there I think I might kill myself. Chris and I had read that the area around Camden had become much nicer with the addition of the ballpark, and we couldn't help but wonder how terrible it must have been before. There were a couple bars (not nice bars) around the stadium, but that was about it. There was some construction going on though, so maybe things are looking up.

As for the stadium itself it is really nice. There are a ton of vendors, and cool restaurants/shops in the Warehouse area of the park. The biggest bummer about this place is the fans. I would guess that there were 5,000 people at the game, which was pretty depressing. And of those 5,000 I would say 1,000 were actual Orioles fans. Just coming off of the insanity that is Fenway, where rabid Red Sox fans show up 3 hours before game time to drink/eat and hang out, this was a bit of a let down. To be fair the Orioles do suck, and the Blue Jays scored 8 runs in the first inning without much effort, but still. By far the craziest thing about this ballpark was who we sat next to during the game. There were two dudes sitting next to us (I think father and son, I would say son in his 40's, dad in his 60's). The son was talking to a buddy of his on his cell phone about the park in Philly, so I asked him if they were traveling around to different stadiums. It turned out they were (they were going to five), but the really crazy part was that they were at both of the games we went to in New York. And the crazier part was that they sat in the same section as us at Shea!!! Talk about a small world. They were cool (except they were Giant's fans), and we had a nice chat with them about all of the parks we each had been to.

We hit the road a bit early since the Orioles were getting spanked, and we had to get on the road to get to Pittsburgh for our day game the next morning.
Overall, Camden is nice, Baltimore & Orioles fans are not. It's a shame that such a beautiful park is so empty of fans. I guess until the Orioles get decent it will be easy to get tickets to Camden Yards.
