The weather has improved – yay!! There was even some sun and blue sky today which was rather revolutionary! The windy city also lived up to its name today as well as it was rather blustery. Thankfully on my last day I wasn’t trudging around getting wet. I was rather cultured today and visited the Chicago Art Institute for a couple of hours which was nice. Not much to report about it though unless you want a critique of some of the pieces, but they have a good collection of modern pieces and photographs, although some of the rooms were shut as they are building an extension to it at the moment. And you have to pay to get in, which was a bit annoying, seeing as I’ve got used to the free London galleries, but it was good nonetheless. I then took a walk back along the ‘Magnificent Mile’ to the John Hancock Tower which is the second tallest building in the city – the Sears Tower is the tallest. I took a lift up to the 94th floor where there were amazing views of the city. There was no way that I could have gone yesterday as the top of the building was covered in cloud all day. Today there was just enough visibility however. After spending some time up there, which to be honest, once you’ve seen the views there isn’t much to do, a bit like the Space Needle in Seattle and the Empire State Building in New York, I took a wander up to one of the beaches on the shores of Lake Michigan. There wasn’t anyone in the water today as it was far too windy and there were also hardly any people on the beach either, but it was just nice to sit there for a while and look at the views and it not be raining! Chicago is a nice city, it would have been nicer if the weather had been better, but I suppose I will just have to come back again another time. Tomorrow I head off to Boston and hit the Atlantic coast. I will then have travelled coast-to-coast across America – a bit weird really.
