We packed the trailor and checked out of our KOA site by 11am. We were able to do the laundry and allow Calista to swim before we hit the road. She loved the area very much and it was hard to go back to Nannie's house. Gabe got us back to southern California in good time. We then rested at my Mom's house* Estephan was so excited and decided to do his natural hop/run to relax and release his anxieties. Gabe was napping and I was chilling with Mom in the living room enjoying time with her and Christine. I was real happy Gabe got a nap in but then I seen his big shadow come out from Mom's hallway stating Estephan is hurt and broke his toe. This really was not what we planned for the evening but got set up to go to nearest ER. Gabe went with Estephan and Bernice and Calista stayed behind awaiting any news. Around ten o'clock at night Estephan came home with crutches and a referral for a specialist to see him for Friday. Our news was severe fracture of the right foot fourth toe and displaced. The notes mentioned surgery to realign the toe- So Estephan went to bed in good spirits and tired parents with real worry we went to bed. We knew we had to prepare for a long stay in SoCal and started to seek nearby RV camp sites. We went to bed by 11pm and decided to handle everything tomorrow a.m.
Many of you were called to pray for our Estephan and his comfort and we thank you so much for it.
Its Friday morning and we are calling our Insurance to get checked out for the doctor the ER referred us to and got the whole run around of HMO, etc. Finally Gabe and I decided just to pay out of pocket and submit claim later. We called the Podiatrist and did not get any response after a few hours so we went in person. The doctor referred on vacation until Monday. Next office referred another doctor around the other side of Holy Cross Med Center- on vacation too. Finally at the bottom of the referral page was another podiatrist- he was available to review med notes and xrays but not available for surgery. We were advised to travel to Luke Air Force base for better care and no worries of Tricare referrals. Gabe and I were fustrated with all this yo-yo treatment and decided lets go home and get him the right care. Gabe got us down to San Diego in record time pulling a trailor. We got reservations at Admiral Baker then my good friend T picked us up at Mission Bay Park to take us to ER and allow Gabe to set up pets and trailor. We knew it would be way to hard to manuveur the 26 foot trailor in the little streets and parking at Balboa. So T dropped us off at the ER entrance and took Cali girl with her to babysit just in case if a minor surgery would occur or not.
The ER was so great. They welcomed us with sincere care and worked us in and made things happen quickly. New xrays then Cast room, with three doctors concurring on his diagnosis and treatment. They made Estephan feel welcomed and were very careful with his highten sensory conditions. Then came up with a plan to buddy tape the toe once manipulated with a pull and turn and taped to third toe. Estephan was so brave and took the pain well biting hard into a Subway tuna sandwich. It has all worked out tonight with toe in ortho shoe, no surgery and a nice RV park to rest in for the night. Hard to come back home- When we picked Calista up she cried and said she will miss her girlfriends. So I can only say a big thanks to our friends, the prayers, the doc and staff at Balboa, Gabe the Great, and of course my kiddo's being really strong at this time.
We missed our start to Phoenix but I am sure we will recoupe and plan again.
My Dad said, We can Plan but God decides- I praise God he decided to allow Estephan not to have a surgery right now cause its hard on the road with more pain then what he has already.
Thanks pals, remember the little blessing along with the huge ones...........
