Kusadasi, which means "bird island", is set on a gulf in the Aegean Sea. It was founded as a colony by Venetians in 16th century. The city was once surrounded by castle walls, which provided protection from the pirates.
No visit to Kusadasi is complete without a side trip to the ancient city of Ephesus. It is considered the best preserved classical city of the Eastern Mediterranean, and among the best places in the world enabling one to genuinely 'soak in' the atmosphere of Roman times.
