After a 9 hour night bus we arrived in Trujillo, the capital of La Libertad department and competing with Arequipa for being the second city of Peru. It has a compact colonial center and the greenness surrounding the city is a delight against the backdrop of brown Andean foothills and peaks.

The glamourously colonial street look like they have not changed in years.

We initially planned to visit Chan Chan, the largest pre-Colombian city in the Americas and once the largest adobe city in the world, but El Nino floods and heavy rainfall have severly eroded the mud walls of the city and we are getting a bit blase about seeing ruins..
