The road to Cosala
From Mexican Siesta in Cosala, Mexico on Mar 01 '05
My brother has always wanted to go to Cosala so after Mazatlan we decided to full fill his dreams. Apparently, Cosala is considered one of the most Beautiful Colonial Villages of Sinaloa State. The road to Cosala was long and sickening. The village is in the mountains so you have to wind up a narrow road to reach it. We had to stop numerous times to vomit, hydrate, rest, and vomit some more. The ride was worth it though. It's was a small picturesque colonial village. The buildings were gorgeous and the sights were breathtaking. Since it's such a small village I don't think they are use to many vistors. We got out of the car and the music sort of stopped as everyone turned to stare at us, we weren't in Kansas anymore. We walked around the village and ate a tiny little restaurant where stray dogs walk in and lick your leg and sit beside you. It was quite an interesting trip, and everyone was so friendly there. I'm glad we went because it was something different to see. I always enjoy being able to see those places that most tourist don't get to see. The ride back down the mountain was somewhat nausous, but much better then the ride up. On the way back we tried to visit these waterfalls, but a gang of Mexican boys no older then 9 decided to put a make shift gate on the road and try to make us pay to drive on it. There were goats and chickens roaming the roam and all around the car. It was nothing I've ever experience before in the comfort of my Midwestern life. The boys stuck their heads in the car windows and stared at us like we were aliens. My brother couldn't understand their Spanish and they couldn't really understand his. Apparently they wanted me to kiss them and they wanted to marry me, or we had to pay a crazy amount of pesos. We decided that the waterfalls were not important enough for my brother to sell me into early marriage to Mexican boy eleven years younger then me. So back to Culiacan we went.
