While the weather was still warm for Tasmania we headed of down the east coast to visit some of the beautiful white sandy beaches there.

We took the scenic route to get there over the Scotsdale Sidling. The most common traffic sign we encountered was: WARNING winding roads next 15 Km. It was very worthwhile the scenery was magnificent and nobody got carsick.

We stopped along the way at St Columbia falls. The rainforest in Tassie is very impressive. The kids were most amazed by the giant manferns that grow here. We spotted a few echidnas but no snakes (good thing).

When we came to St Helens we stocked up on Milo, wheatbix and meatpies at the local grocery store and headed of to David and Inge's shack in Binalong Bay.

It was getting too late to stop at any beaches but we saw some that had great potential for tomorrow. There were black swans swimming in the rivers and lagoons.

Next morning it was somewhat overcast but still warm. We went to explore Binalong Bay. The beach was really nice, and the waves were great. This side of Tasmania is not really safe for swimming, the undertow is surprisingly strong and the waves very powerful. Wave jumping is allowed. All the kids, except Eleni, loved the waves. She would insist that we go find a different pool.

We explored some rockpools and came face to face with a few hungry crabs. St Helens is Tasmanias fishing capital and Adrian couldn't wait to get his rod in the water so off we went to find a good fishing spot. We explored the various beaches along the Bay of Fires, collected lots of shells, sun and sand but no fish.

March 1 It rained all night, but the temp is still mid 20's, so after school was done we went back to Swimcarp Beach. This seemed to be the most suitable for beachfishing, shell collecting and "swimming".The sky cleared up and we had a wonderful time relaxing on the beach.(Still no fish)
