We met Marla in Norway. Marla and BJ were on their Norway in a nutshell getaway when we told them about our trip. They said we should stop by for a visit if we come to Germany again. They are both US military stationed in Germany.

So we took them up on the offer. We stayed with Marla for a week. We were needing a dose of American life. And Marty was needing some football. We found all of this on base! We hung out at the sports club, ate Taco Bell, and watched alot of football.

On Marla's days off we all did some sightseeing. One day we went to the town of Trier (I think I am spelling that wrong--so Marla if you are reading this let me know) We did the 3 hour walking tour. This town was called the second Rome. There is alot of history in this town and some cool old buildings as well as some old Roman baths. Another trip we did was down the Rhine river. Tons of castle's. And I picked the best seat on the boat! (inside joke)

Marla took us to visit with all her friends. We did pizza night, poker night and best of all she made us a Turkey dinner. We had some great eats at her house and loaded up on American food.

Marla was so good to us. She retires soon and is heading back to the States. We look forward to seeing you again when we get back. I can't cook as good as you but I can make some mean reservations!

After leaving Marla's house, we visited Neuschweinstein castle. This castle was built by King Ludwig. Disney used this castle as inspiration to built the castle at Disneyworld. It is really cool and worth visiting. It is about three hours South of Munich. We were there in the fall so all the leaves on the trees were orange and yellow. It made the scene even more dramatic.

We had flown into Munich from Greece and spent a day there before visiting with Marla. We saw this glockenscpiel (? about the spelling) It is this live action clock in the center of town. Also hung out at the Haufbrauhous and drank some great beer and listened to German music.

We did a two day trip to Salzberg in Germany but it was kind of a bust. It rained really hard the whole time we were there so we didn't see much of the Mozart town. But we did go to one of the old salt mines and did a tour. We had to wear these mining uniforms and ride the little cars into the mine. Then we had to slide down these wooden planks. The only problem was that we got added on to an Austrian school field day and we had no idea what anyone was saying. Luckily they showed us a film and it was subtitled in English. It was pretty cheezy and I think Marty was over it, but I just giggled like a school girl and fit right in.
