Saw an incredibly bad production of Gluck’s Iphengenie auf Tauris tonight. Sigh. And I was so pumped to see some good Baroque opera. I would’ve left halfway through, but we paid 20 Euro for tickets. Boo.

Yesterday, Melissa and I got seats to Idomeneo by Mozart. It was pretty good; the soprano was phenomenal and her high notes floated like feathers in the breeze. We usually don't get seats to the opera and do the standing room instead. It was great to sit for once. The stage was made into a giant staircase for the opera, which was great for visibility, but it made me really nervous for the singers. One character tripped and I thought she was going down, but she recovered.

I went wandering off by myself to St. Ruprecht’s Church, the oldest church in Vienna. It was built in the 1300's. Then I found two other early churches and a Holocaust memorials. I found these random 1300-1500 churches! When I wonder Columbia, I find a new coffee shop or a 7-11 (that’s a lie, there are no 7-11's in Columbia.) Here I find historical sites. I found the Jewish Museum, but didn’t have time to go in, so I bought two super-rare Mozart CD’s instead. This is the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, so they are doing all sorts of Mozart stuff. So far, I’ve seen:

Crappy Mozart tourist concert

Some Piano sonatas by the Philharmonic at the Musik Verein

Così Fan Tutte

Die Zauberflöte

Idomeneo

Can I include eating entirely too many Mozart balls on the list?

Quote of the Day: I always get my genders confused. Maybe that’s why I don’t have a boyfriend. -Lindsay Gaspar (referring to German noun construction)
