On our third day in Glasgow we took it easy and relaxed for a while. Much of the day was spent booking hostels and planes. We had no idea Amsterdam would be such a hassle to get a room! But we got one, at a great place, so we're happy.
Auchentoshan Distillery is about a twenty minute drive from the house, and our first activity for the day. The place smelled very strange, kind of like sweet oatmeal, which turned out to be barley boiling. Although I don't think any of us were whisky drinkers, it was still really interesting to learn about the process. Everyone was also suprised to hear that Baileys Irish Cream is not in fact made in Ireland, but here in Scotland, with Irish whisky. Outside the distillery there is a big field with Scottish Cattle. They're much like our own dairy cattle at home except with longer hair and big horns. Again, it's spring time, so there were plenty of babies. The cattle are fed the left over barley stock, which we're told is why Angus beef tastes so good. At the end of the tour we got to taste some whisky, which Christy passed on. Karin described it as tasting "like fire," and Meaghan complained later that it made her face numb. Turns out that the tour guide was false : None of us were converted to whisky drinkers. Sorry!

In the evening we headed over to the pub where Meaghan's Aunt organizes Kareokee on Wednesdays. We had a lot of fun just hanging out and listening to the singers, some good, others not so much. But my, can the Scottish can take their drinks. Meaghans cousin even pointed out the Scott's ability to fall and not spill their beer, which he later demonstrated.
We're having a lot of fun and hope to hear from you all.
