Lots of pictures today! I got out on the road way early and was actually ahead of schedule all day.
First stop was Oklahoma City to see the memorial of the 1995 bombing of the Federal Building. If you go through OKC, or have to spend a day at Tinker AFB, you MUST visit it. For me, it brought back memories of 9/11 - different terrorists but the same kind of tragedy, and the same kind of heroic human response.
Pulled off for gas in Clinton, OK and decided to check out the first of many Route 66 museums along I-40. Turns out this one was the best! Had a few vintage cars and lots of wartime memorabilia. This is more or less the place where old Route 66, coming down from Chicago, links up with the modern I-40; from here they both go through the same towns until they split again at Barstow, CA. Which is the way I'm going, too. I guess I will have to "get my kicks."

The Cadillac Ranch outside Amarillo is truly ridiculous and very cool at the same time. There must be over 4 inches of spray paint on those cars. I even happened to catch some teens "in the act" of decorating the cars.
Finally, I rolled into Tucumcari NM, which has preserved about a 4 mile stretch of old Route 66 - many of the establishments date back at least to WWII. The museum wasn't much but I did find a wacky souvenir shop in town.
I passed about a billion head of cattle along the highway today. Then I ate a great big steak.
