Niagara is a short bus ride from Toronto, which made a nice change from spending hours on buses and / or planes.

The falls are partly frozen at this time of year, and look fantastic. The town of Niagara is very touristy, with lots of tacky things to do, so we spent a very fun day doing most of them! We also went up on the big wheel they have there, which has the most amazing views of the falls, and as it was a really clear day we could actually see across the border to New York, which was pretty impressive. It looked really good, all the sky scrapers on the horizon.

As there is not a huge amount to do in Niagara we had only planned to stay a couple of days, but unfortunately we had a temporary and unforeseen financial problem, which meant we had to stay there for a few more, very cold and not-very-interesting days, before heading back to Toronto.

Unfortunately we have another unforeseen problem – The British Embassy in Ottawa. Rob has applied for a working holiday visa for the UK, so that we can spend some time there. The application is supposed to take ten working days to process, except that the embassy sat on it for twelve days, and only began the processing when we chased them up to find out what’s going on. As Rob’s passport had to be submitted as part of the application, he’s unable to fly until the process is complete, and I can’t change my flight dates as my ticket is about to expire, so I’m back to the UK on my own, whilst Rob sits and waits for the passport. Not an ideal way to end the trip, but hopefully it won’t be for too long!
