After a 7hr train journey we were very thankful to be in Budapest! We checked into our hostel, we were the only ones booked in sso yet again we have the place to ourselves! We were both starving so went to the first restaurant we found 'Aladdin Restaurant' and absolutely gorged ourselves on so much food for about 10 pound, even better!! We practically rolled out of the restaurant and wandered through the old town. It is a very beautiful city!

Today we went to see the sights of Budapest. The city is split into two sections by the River, we decided to explore Pest first. We wandered down along the river to the bridge where the riots have been going on in the last couple of months before heading to the Parliament Building and St Stephens Basilica. In the afternoon we crossed over the river to Buda and climbed the hill to look out from Castle Hill. I know I said never again to climbing mountains but we stopped quite alot on the way so it wasn't oo bad. The view from the top was well worth it, looking out over the river. As we wandered through the castle square a Hungarian man started talking to us about Budapest, we soon realised that he was a tour guide and trying to sell his tour. We didn't want to but couldn't get a word in edgewise as he didn't stop talking! His pronounciation of words was very amusing though.. He finally said that he would give us some time to think about it (but only after babbling for about 20 mins!?) and we made a run for it down the castle stairs until we thought it was safe to stop.

We spent the afternoon exploring through Buda and finding a nice Mexican restaurant for dinner, well so we thought.. We ordered a starter of nachos that took about 40 mins to come out, which consisted of corn chips and some cold salsa dip (they must have had to pick them up from Mexico!!) and then our mains came out about 5 mins later - they were ok.. It was quite cheap though to can't complain..

Today we took a train about 40 mins out of Budapest to a place called Szentendre when the river 'bends' apparently.. It was next to nothing to get there so we thought we would have a look. It was a very small little village surrounded by souvenir shops and arts and crafts. We went to see the river 'bend' but I don't think it was doing it that day cause it definately didn't look very interesting to me! We had lunch before heading back to Budapest to the hostel. We had been trying to catch the lady that runs the hostel so we could pay her but she never seemed to be around. We come to the conclusion that she led a double ife as she came in about 3am each morning that we were there, made alot of noise and was asleep on the sofa when we got up in the morning. By the time we come back at around 4 she is gone again...
