The normal routine of breakfast then the luggage outside our rooms for the porter to pick up then load up and we board the coach ready for our route towards Nice today. It’s good bye Spain.

We leave Barcelona on a long 3-hour through the south of France, learning interesting facts along the way. I heard a few but a majority of my time was spent snoozing.

Palais des Papes

We arrive at noon at a town call Avignon. This place is beautiful. It’s an obvious tourist area. We are given free time to explore this amazing little town. We head up to see the Popes Palace. As we cruise through the streets and alleys all filled with visitors having lunch. Lyn and I skipped lunch in replacement of roaming around the streets taking pictures.

Avignon is home to the Pont d'Avignon . A famous medieval bridge. A flood in 1668, swept away much of the bridge so now it stands as half a bridge.

Another main attraction is Palais des Papes. Known also as the Pope’s Palace. The took residence in Avignon in 1309. In front of this historical building are cafes where you can enjoy the sun and a latte or two. The area is catered for the tourist and with the weather being as great it was today. There were plenty tourist out.

A few markets had been set up and so Lyn and I decided to we would go for a browse. As we headed towards the busier end the town we run into more cafes and a merry-go-round.

The weather is great and there is plenty tourist around. Avignon is a pleasant place and I would love to return again some day. However for now, its back on the bus and onto the next destination.
