On my half way to Bled lake
From Where castles and dragons still guard roads and cities in Skofja Loka, Slovenia on Apr 27 '08
As a new week begun, I went for a one day trip to the north-west now, visiting Å kofja Loka and the famous Bled lake. Å kofja Loka is situated on a half way to the lake from Ljubljana and it is worth to see, just because of it medieval look with all the authentic wall paintings and facades all over the city. There is a very small number of new buildings what makes this town well preserved. A castle above the city is transformed into a museum and the area around it into a huge park that reaches a forest behind the town. The town lies on a river Sora with its slaps and small waterfalls. The most famous sight is an 600 yrs old steel bridge over Sora river with saint John of Nepomuk in the middle of it. The city coat of arms has a portrait of a black man who deserved that place after he saved one of the main landlords of that region from a bear attack. On the main square, not that big, dominates a monument of Saint Mary. It was really worth making a short break visiting Skofja Loka.
