Up the East Coast !

We had to get up quite early so we could begin our big drive up the east coast to Christchurch where we wanted to sell our car. We stopped off on route to check out some early Maori cave paintings. We then drove on to Dunedin which was quite a cute town. We had a coffee here and got accosted for about half an hour by a frustrated Londoner who really wanted to go home. He was a bit of a nutter but we had to be polite as he was supposed to be serving us our latte ! We drove out of Dunedin pretty quick and made our way up to Omara where we camped for the night. Our campsite was right next door to the public gardens where we could stretch our feet in the sunny evening.

We ventured out at dusk to go and see the yellow eyed penguin. We were really lucky there were two about and they walked right onto the cliff and allowed us to have a close up look. They also squawed a lot. They were very cute.

Our car had been making a funny noise all day and we were a bit nervous especially as we were so close to selling it, so we called out the AA man. For those of you who know Julia and I's run -ins with AA men this next bit won't surprise you! We took him out for a drive so he could identify the banging ! Typically the car made no noise whatsoever, which was quite embarrassing. We later discovered ( after the AA man left ) that we had had to move the back seat belts so I could sit in the back while the AA man was in the front. We realised that the back seat belts had been banging underneath the back seats- Another blonde moment !!
