Kudos to Max
From Down Under - Spring 2006 (or is that Fall...?) in Adelaide, Australia on Oct 30 '06
So Max had his best flight ever! Not a peep out of the little guy. He slept for the first hour or so, and then just played quietly with mommy and daddy, and he ate the window which mommy was prescient enough to have cleaned before take-off. Quantas was SO NICE! The staff were nice, the food was good, the plane was nice, and they even moved the man next to us so we could spread out! If only Cathay had been half as good...
Adelaide is a nice city, we'd say more laid back and definitely a lot cheaper than Perth. Probably almost half price for restaurant meals vs Perth. We expect Melbourne and Sydney to be more expensive again so we're enjoying it while it lasts.

The architecture has a lot more Victorian buildings than Perth, and fewer new ones, as Adelaide lacks the booming economy of the West. Yesterday we set out and did a tour of the botanic gardens, the national wine centre and then the South Australian Museum. The botanic gardens were very nice, and we finally learned the names of a bunch of the common trees, like Morton Bay Figs and such that we certainly don't have elsewhere. They also had a lovely Victorian-era Palm House, which was apparently mail-ordered from Germany originally and is now the only one of its kind - it is filled with plants from Madagascar, which ironically are also endangered or extinct, due to the massive deforestation taking place there. The wine centre was very well done and was also a great place for Max to crawl around and play since it was impeccably clean and there was no-one else around! We finished off the day with the museum, where we spent most of our time looking at the Aboriginal exhibits, which we noticed had a distinct lack of mention of any effects the white man may have had on them!
Today we're in the Barossa Valley doing some more touring and tasting, and then off to visit Simon and Josephine, a couple Daniel met in Europe on his Contiki tour. Tomorrow we're off to Kangaroo Island.
Cheers,
T&D&m
PS Tonya is grumbling because Max won;t let her eat her cake without sharing in the bounty!
