Well after spending almost a week here in Athens, we finally have a better idea about how the remainder of the itinerary will go for the country. We are off to Nafplio tomorrow for a few days to visit Epidaurus and Mycenae (sp?) and then from there we can try to find a bus down to Gythio or come back to Athens and catch a bus to Gythio from here. We take the ferry to Crete from Gythio and then about a week on Crete. We ferry to Santorini (Thira) and then can fly or ferry back to Athens in order to fly to Spain. We have run across one wrinkle though. The lady at Olympic Air said that Spain has a new requirement for US tourists. We must have proof of an onward ticket. Since Tim and I plan to travel overland to Portugal and then don't know our exact date of departure, that's a small problem. She indicated we could just buy a roundtrip ticket and not use the half back to Athens, but of course that's a little bit more expensive than a one way. I've checked the web for info on this and have found none. If anyone knows if this a new requirement or can do some research on it for us that would be great.

We've enjoyed ourselves and relaxed here in Athens. The Plakka is a wonderful area to roam around in with its narrow streets and restaurants and views of the Acropolis. We went to the Temple of Olympia Zeus in the morning and then off to Ancient Agora which is closed for renovations. They are really busy getting ready for the 2004 olympics and the Museum of Archeological History is also closed. The Gate of Hadrien is also under construction. Bummer. We went to the ancient cemetary. I wouldn't be suprised if we run into this all over the country. Oh well.

Hopefully I'll have more to say after we do some more stuff but we are enjoying ourselves.
