Well last night was one hell of a night! It was the first time this entire trip that Jacob actually got a little seasick. While sailing through the English Channel we experienced 58mph winds and extremely high seas with hanging crests. It felt like a rollercoaster ride. It was funny at first, especially pretending we were on Deadliest Catch, but after a few hours it proved to be a little too much.
Earlier in the evening we went to watch the show the cruise put on. Last night they had this juggler/comedian guy. I felt terrible because he kept dropping everything because the boat was so rocky it was throwing off his balance. Very few people seemed to be clapping for him or laughing at his jokes. It was just uncomfortable. Then came the audience participation part of the show... Guess who raises their hand??? Of course, Jacob! I looked over and I was shocked. Next thing I know Jacob is sitting up on the stage with a helmet on his head and the juggler guy starts spinning plates and balancing them on Jacob. All in all, my husband officially was able to successfully spin five plates at once. Hidden talents I never knew he had were being displayed in all their glory last night. The juggler guy also took a polaroid of Jacob spinning the plates which I’ll be sure to upload at some point.

When we arrive in St. Peter Port in Guernsey the seas had calmed down and it actually turned out to be a beautiful day. After we took the tender to shore we decided to go for a hike along the cliff paths. There are over twenty-eight miles of cliff paths on the island. The route we were on took us past the underground military museum and up to the old fort and eventually away from the small town. Jacob was hoping to see a Guernsey Cow on our stroll but we never did bump into one (I think we were on the wrong side of the island). We were told this cow provides some of the richest milk in the world… we really didn’t care about that though, we honestly just wanted to see a cute cow roaming around.
After walking on the cliff paths for a few miles we took a break on a nice secluded bench that overlooked Castle Cornet which was built by King John to defend the island against the Normans. When I grabbed my camera to take a photo the stupid thing wouldn’t turn on. Turns out Jacob did put the camera in the charger last night but he forgot to plug the charger into the outlet. Bummer!
When we finished with our hike we decided to take the tender back to our ship and just relax for awhile because ours legs were killing us from walking and climbing so much. We also were able to legitimately recharge the camera.
As we headed back onto the tender to return to St. Peter Port, everyone on our cruise was going in the opposite direction and heading back to the ship. About ten different old ladies told Jacob and I that it was too cold out and we should bring a heavy coat. I didn’t see why they were all complaining. When we arrived back into town it was still beautiful out, just a little windy. Jacob says that if one more person tells us that we should bundle up he’s going to remind them that we are still in our 20s and our internal thermostats have yet to malfunction. I know the olds meant well but seriously, like ten people gave us lectures about why we should stay on the boat. It’s not like we would let a little wind stop us… we hail from South D.
We only had a few hours left in Guernsey so we walked to the docks and climbed around on the rocks as the tide came in. Jacob discovered some mollusks or clams (or maybe they were snails, I don’t know) attached the rocks. He tried to get one to sneak it back onto the ship. He also realized the things smelled really bad so that idea quickly faded.
We are now on our way back to France where we will be stopping in St. Malo.
Time for bed!
Oh, and Jacob wants me to inform everyone that he is growing a beard, Castaway style. Joy.
