Long day of driving.

Started the morning by picking cherries at Way Fruit Farm just out of State College.

Headed north from Port Matilda through Phillipsburg to I-80, which I took to the Ohio state line. Then I ditched the freeway and took state highways towards Cleveland. Got stuck in a torrential rainstorm which forced me off the road.

After it passed I went along the shore of Lake Geneva to Sandusky, Ohio.

Drove along the lakeshore some more, past some wildlife refuges, to Indiana. Followed US Route 12, a real nice country road through beautiful farm country. Passed through some old fashioned towns with courthouse squares.

Made it to the Indiana suburbs of Chicago. Wanted to camp at the Indiana Dunes but the campground was full so found a motel in Hammond.

Lots of steel mills.
