Tracey arrives to Durban...
From From Knoxville to South Africa in Durban, South Africa on Jul 10 '08
My trip began at 6 am Thursday. I flew into New York and then off to South Africa. There was a three hour delay in New York, but the pilot made great time and I didn’t miss my Cape Town connection…although I did have to pleasantly force my way to the front of the Passport line and then sprint through two car garages, a construction zone and the domestic terminal.
When I arrived Friday night, Greg had been taking cold medicine for about two days. He thinks he might have caught a bug from his swimming expedition in the Indian Ocean. NO CAUSE FOR ALARM MOM’s and DAD’s….he’s holding his own, and we have plenty of meds (none that you would recognize) to help.
After walking down to Pier 107 (on the Golden Mile) for a little bite to eat...we had Bunny Chow (a dish created in Durban...look it up on Wikepedia, very interesting) we settled in for a good rest since our bus for the Safari was leaving Saturday morning at 7am. It was great to see Greg again, and we couldn’t wait to see Africa together!
*BACKGROUND INFO- The Golden Mile is the name given to the popular stretch of beachfront in the city of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, including the promenade that runs along with it. It runs roughly from South Beach to the north. It abuts the central business district of the city to its west. It is one of the main tourist attractions in the Durban area. The wide stretch of golden sands, artificially separated by various piers, provides excellent opportunities for sun-worshippers and swimmers to enjoy the sub-tropical sunshine and warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Most of the Mile's beaches are protected year-round by lifeguards and shark nets. The Mile is also a well-known surfer's haven.
