I visited Augsburg with a friend from college on a trip to visit another friend who had been living there for a few years since graduation. It was nice that we had a place to stay with friends who spoke the language and knew the local hangouts since we weren't interested in toursity activities.

It wasn't so nice that we had different ideas about the trip. My two friends and I hadn't been super close since graduation, they wanted to shop everyday and I wanted to explore the city so it left everyone disappointed at the end of the day. Their apartment was small, above a wine shop which was quant, but it also left me sleeping on a hard wood floor with a raft-like air mattress for bedding. I should have sacked up and paid to stay at a local hotel but we live and learn.

I didn't realize how heavy german beer really is - a meal in itself.
Neuschwanstein - a castle on the tourist list, but I loved it.

The transit system was nice to have but the trains always seemed late but definitely worth the convenience. We made it from Munich airport to Augsburg via trains without speaking German, helped by detailed directions ahead of time and some locals taking pity on us lugging our bags. I wouldn't recommend the trip after traveling across the ocean, we were exhausted at that point!

We did get the chance to explore a little bit and my favorite part was visiting a few castles in the area to see the beautiful architecture and walking around downtown Munich - absolutely breathtaking, even in the gloomy rain. I would have loved to have spent more time doing that kind of exploring, again lack of planning and communication.

We ate mostly in the apartment and the places we did venture out to were local dives with local food which was a great experience. I didn't realize how heavy german beer really is - a meal in itself.

I would love to explore the region again, with different people and more similar travel personalities.
