When in Rome....

We arrived in Rome to find that our bed and breakfast accomodation was just outside the Vatcican city opposite the Vatican Museum, great location.  We were met at the B&B by a lovely young couple who were very keen to show their warm hospitaliity by telling us exactly what we should and should not see in Rome, providing us with a cup of tea. and showing us where the cheap places were to eat (which was good as the 'Italy experience' was begining to severly eat into our bank balance).

We decided to make the most of the afternoon and walked to St Peter's square and the Bascillica.  The Basillica itself was incredible with beutifully carved huge statues of apostles and past popes inside and outside the church.  We climied to the very top of the Basllca were there was a glorious view of Rome city (check out the photos).  We then walked to Piazza Novona, a square about Italian as you get, with resturants, fountains, statues, buskers, artists and mimes. Amber and I had our portraits drawn which was fun.  We then headed off to Trevi Fountain (an impressive, over the top fountain made from white marble) and then on to the spanish steps. Exhasted we came home to rest.

The following day we took in the sights of the awesome Colosseum and impressive Roman Forum followed by lunch in the majestic Palatines. Finally we were getting some sun!!

The highlight of the third and final day in Rome was the Gelato we found near Trevi Fountation, the ice cream is arguably the best ice cream in Italy!!!  Crazy three days but we loved every minute of it.
