In which we go to the New Zealand Rugby Cup Final! (and lose regardless of not actually supporting a team)

From 'Finding myself' in Wellington, New Zealand on Oct 23 '08

The drive to Wellington would be very long if we weren't all clever bastards and hadn't of found a shortcut! (A 4 hour drive down a dirt road behind several logger trucks). Still though it worked and we managed to get there! Wherever we have driven so far in New Zealand the scenery has been amazing, like something out of Lord of the Rings or something?! Also some of it looks like a bigger version of wales, I imagine the south island is going to be even better! The other thing you notice driving around New Zealand is just how many sheep they actually do have here, there are so many more sheep than there are poeple. There are not many people in New Zealand, so far I have counted about 10. (Incedently, out of the five, Jake does the best impression of a sheep).

When we settle into Wellnigton we go take a look around, get food and go out for a casual drink. But that casual drink turns into several, which turns into 4 more bars and a club. I wake up at 7.30am to pay for the car park (after losing paper scissor stone) feeling VERY rough.

Rugby, museums and gardens n what have you. Rock n roll yeah.

We later go to 'Te Papa' which is Maorwi and losely translates to mean 'Our Place' and is the museum of New Zealand. Inside it holds many Maorwi artifacts such as huts, canoes and maorwi art. It was actually very interesting, it was just such a shame that I had such a blinding headache. I tried to fall asleep in a small room called 'Memories' which included a looped video of elderly people remenising about 'being on a boat or plane'. It included such gems as "I have never been on a plane but I saw one fly above me once" and "When the plane landed I had a little cry and then got off". One old lady couldn't speak English very well and spoke like Ali G, "Me went on a plane, me liked it very much". Brilliant.

After this I went home to sleep in order to get rid of my hangover. I woke again at 5pm because we had managed to get some awesome tickets... tickets for the Air New Zealand Rugby Cup Final, Wellington v. Canterbury. I got to see All Blacks players such as Richie Mcoll and Hosea Gear (Neither of which I actually knew anything about, nor what they looked like) but the others were all very excited so they must be good! It was actually alot of fun cheering on our chosen team (Wellington) but losing 6-7. Rugby cheering as it happens is very easy, you say "fucks sake" or "fuckin ell" if he drops the ball, "yes" and "come on" if he runs and any indistinguisable noise if you are confused. Simple. The Canterbury mascott was the campest sheep I have ever seen, prancing up and down like he was supporting mens netball rather than rugby, although you wouldn't want to insult him as the actual team were fuckin HUGE!

Jake has become the leader of the Gang green.

That was last night. Today we have taken a tram up to a tram museum (which wasn't all that, in the comments page on the way out I wrote, "I have never actualy been on a tram but one flew over me once, I had a little cry and then I got off, me liked it very much") and then walked back through the botanical gardens, which were lovely but to be honest we had the most fun in the kids playground.

Tomorrow we shall get the ferry to the south island. Bring it.
