Visting with Micha and Sven
From Visting with Micha and Sven in Stuttgart, Germany on Oct 16 '02
Micha was an exchange student in Indiana several years ago. She became good friends with my sister AnnMarie. When I called to ask if I could have a care package mailed to her house she said 'of course and you will stay with us too.' I didn't want to invade her space but before I could say anything she had a whole weekend planned for us.
We had a blast! Sven and Micha live in the cutest town in Germany. Sven is an excellent soccer (called football in Europe) player in Germany. They have a great life. Well now they are both students again--- working on their master's degree-- but the weekend we were there was one of their last real party weekends before school started.
First they took us on a great day trip to Lake Constance. We spent the day sightseeing and drinking apple cider. They took us on a ferry to this scenic town-- but I waited too long to make this entry and I don't have my Europe map now- so I can't remember the name of the town but it was in Germany so of course it was beautiful! Micha's mom make us a schwabian delight called spatzle. They are these great tasting noodle's--- yumm.
The next day we watched Sven play the most intense game of soccer I have ever seen. These guys are really serious about their game! Marty and I drank spiced wine at the game. Oh yea- It's October in Germany--really, really cold! After the game we hung out with the team at their clubhouse. We had so much fun. We were only going to stay for an hour or so but it turned out to be the most shots of schnapps I have ever done in my life! People kept buying rounds and then came DAS BOOT! (A very very large beer glass) I have a video of us singing 'Oh Tanenbaum' the only song we knew in German. It took two days to recover from that night! We vowed to never drink again on this trip!
Micha and Sven were so good to us. Hope you guys come to visit with us in the States!
