Horses and whales, oh my!

A real quick entry to say: we are staying at Myvatn and we have now done our two activity goals in Iceland - we rode horses and went whale watching! Both were very exciting and fun, the horse riding especially because we just went out with this old man all by ourselves and he even taught us how to trot our horses (which they call tolt over here, I believe). He said that Icelandic horses have five different speeds. They are also shorter than other horses and I thought they were very nice. Mine was slow (just the way I like it) and Jubie´s liked to stop to eat. The views of the lake as we rode were amazing - too bad it is hard to take pics from horseback! Jubie was brave and took two of me riding. =)

The whale watching was from Husavik and it was very cold! Husavik is a nice colorful town on the north coast. We saw 4 to 6 minke whales, who surface very fast. It was awesome to see them up close although they were too fast to capture on camera. Husavik has a wonderful whale center/museum that we went to after whale watching - it was going to close in 45 min, so the ladies at the front charged us 200 ISK less than the normal amount - hooray! Afterwards we went to Kofinn Gourmet Hut, the best (and one of the cheapest) places to eat. We got hot dogs, Icelandic style (deep fried onions, a remoulade sauce, melted cheese and bbq sauce) and also the BEST waffle ever, with ice cream, chocolate, jam, syrup, and honey on it. It kept us full for the drive back to Myvatn.
